Kirk Roy
32 years old
Started lifting again 9/4/01
5'6.5"
183 lbs as of 11/12/01
14.4% BF as of 10/6/01 (was 175 lbs then)
Married ten years with two kids (7 and 5)
I've lifted on and off since high school but have never
had a huge amount
of motivation for lifting at home (either with my brother
or alone). Way
back in high school I was relatively strong naturally
(at 135 lbs I could
deadlift 400, squat 325, bench 225, and military press
170 - those were
all clean, cheat-free lifts... :) ). I actually entered
one PL competition
back in 1985. I knew I could squat 325 but no one told
me I shouldn't do
my max as my first lift. Guess the outcome! ;) Well,
that was it for PL
for me! Besides, I got a guitar soon after and hardly
spent any of my free
time doing anything besides playing it...
And here is the result of all that practice
I started bicycle racing in 1992-3 or so and raced until
my second
daughter was born in 1996. I was 150 lbs then and in
excellent shape - my
VO2 max was 64, my lean mass about 135 lbs, and I had
a mean kick up to
about 42 mph... However, I gave up racing and training
in favor of family
life (12 hours a week of riding, plus travel time to
races, etc did not
fit in well for me). I did a bunch of dirt bike (motorcycle)
riding in
1999 and 2000, including some racing. I also bought a
50cc bike for the
girls to ride... :)
Fast forward to May 2001. I'm 185 lbs and feel superfat.
I spend the next
couple months losing almost 20 lbs through diet. I hold
there for awhile
but would still like to get down in the 150s. So, I join
a gym (weights
for me and aerobics for the wife) in September 2001.
The gym environment
is very motivating to me and I've been super regular
with it since then
(just 2 months now). At the beginning of October I had
a bodyfat caliper
test done and was surprised to find that, at 175 lbs,
I was 14.4% BF! Woo
hoo! I guess the dirt bike riding put some meat on my
upper body (plus a
bit from the weight lifting since Sept).
Current goals:
Still be lifting come 9/4/02 :)
Squat 400 lbs in mid 2002
Bench 300 lbs by late 2002
Military press 200 lbs in early 2002
Do a 1RM weighted pullup with 100 lbs in mid 2002
Develop some pectorals... :)
