I started lifting when I was 11. Track and field was my main sport (I had
been sprinting since I was 9 or so). I became pretty good and lifting
weights enhanced my running. I was lucky enough to run in the PENN Relays
and win a bronze medal in 9th grade. Been part of 3 state indoor and
outdoor track championship teams. I ran track up to my sophmore year in
high school. Shin splints and other injuries made it too painful to run.
That's when I switched to the shot put, football, and heavy weight
training. When I graduated, I just concentrated on lifting. In college, I
trained very hard. Eventually working up to a twice a day, 6 days a week
split. At that time, I seriously thought about becoming a bodybuilder but
much like now, I love food too much :-) and could not see myself dieting to
that extreme to compete. When I graduated, life hit me and I stopped
lifting for 7 years. By this time, I had gone up to about 280#. This was
too heavy for me so I decided to start again so on May 16, 2001, I
officially started lifting again.
It was rough getting back but I am glad I did it. I started powerlifting a
few months ago thanks to the help of this board and DanL. I just finished
my first powerlifting meet (WNPF Delaware State Championships). I competed
in the novice 242# Novice RAW division and squatted 405, benched 350, and
deadlifted 405#. My goals are to bench 405#+ RAW, squat and deadlift over
500# RAW and to stay as healthy as possible.
Best RAW lifts and accomplishments (don't laugh, please):
Squat: 405#
Bench: 365#
Deadlift: 405#
Meet total: 1160#
WNPF American Bench Press Record for 242# Novice RAW Division (full meet
lifters 350#)
